Subaru Recalls 69,663 Model-Year 2026 Foresters for Moonroof Glass That May Detach

Subaru of America initiated a safety recall in June 2026 covering approximately 69,663 model-year 2026 Subaru Forester sport utility vehicles after determining that the power moonroof glass panel may not be properly adhered to the sunroof frame. NHTSA's recall acknowledgment letter for campaign 26V346, dated June 2, 2026, states that inadequate adhesion could allow the glass panel to detach from the vehicle while it is in motion.

The NHTSA Part 573 safety-recall report identifies the affected production window as vehicles manufactured between approximately February 20 and March 17, 2026. The agency's documentation estimates that 2.9 percent of the roughly 69,663 vehicles in the recall population have the adhesion defect. Subaru of America's address of record for the recall is One Subaru Drive, Camden, New Jersey.

A detaching moonroof glass panel poses a road-hazard risk both for occupants of the vehicle—who could be struck by the panel or exposed to wind blast and debris—and for other road users. Glass debris on the roadway can cause tire damage or accidents for following vehicles. The defect was classified under the "Visibility: Glass, Roof/Moonroof/Sunroof" category in NHTSA's recall system.

The NHTSA notice directs authorized Subaru dealers to inspect the power moonroof glass panel for proper adhesion and, if necessary, replace the glass panel assembly at no cost to the owner. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on or around July 24, 2026. Technicians at independent auto glass shops who service sunroofs or panoramic roof systems should take note of this campaign. Shops should follow adhesive manufacturer specifications and allow adequate cure time before returning any vehicle with a roof-glass installation to the customer.
