Nissan Recalls 41,797 Sentra Sedans for Windshield Air-Bubble Defect

Nissan North America initiated a safety recall in November 2025 for approximately 41,797 model-year 2025 Sentra passenger cars after discovering that windshield laminate air bubbles could appear in the critical driver sight-line area. NHTSA's acknowledgment letter for recall 25V807 states that the condition may violate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 205, which governs glazing materials used in motor vehicles.

The NHTSA recall notice identifies the subject vehicles as 2025 Nissan Sentra units built within a specific production window. The agency's Part 573 safety-recall report notes that an estimated 2.2 percent of the approximately 41,797 vehicles covered are believed to contain the defect—suggesting the bubble formation was not universal but was concentrated in a subset of the production population.

Air bubbles within the laminate interlayer of a windshield can scatter or distort light entering the vehicle, potentially reducing a driver's ability to see the road ahead, particularly in bright or low-angle sun conditions. FMVSS 205 sets minimum light-transmittance and distortion requirements for automotive glazing, and any deviation that impairs forward visibility constitutes a safety concern under federal standards.

The NHTSA notice instructs dealers to inspect the windshield and replace it as necessary, at no charge to the owner. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on or around January 15, 2026. NHTSA's recall database became searchable using vehicle identification numbers beginning November 21, 2025. Nissan identified this recall internally under campaign code PMA58.

Auto glass shops may encounter Sentra owners who bring in vehicles for windshield replacement after receiving recall notices. Because the replacement is a dealer-only remedy under the recall campaign, independent shops should advise owners to schedule the dealer repair first. If an owner later returns for any follow-on glass service, technicians should document the prior recall repair to maintain a clear service history.
