Auto Glass Now (AGN), the Charlotte, North Carolina-based auto glass chain owned by Driven Brands, announced on July 23, 2024, that it had secured insurance agency partnerships at 22 Florida locations through agreements with GreatFlorida Insurance and Pearl Holding Group as part of its initiative to build relationships with regional insurance providers.

AGN described GreatFlorida Insurance as one of the largest insurance agency franchisors in Florida, with a substantial network of independent agency franchisees throughout the state. Pearl Holding Group represents Ocean Harbor Casualty Insurance, which works with approximately 900 agents across Florida. Together, the two partnerships extend AGN's insurance-referral network considerably across the state's high-volume glass market.

Michael Macaluso, Driven Brands' executive vice president of Paint, Collision, and Glass, characterized the partnerships as evidence of a "laser focus on successfully growing regional insurance relationships" with the company's U.S. glass business. The 22 Florida locations covered by the partnerships represent a significant operational footprint in what is one of the nation's most active glass replacement markets.

Florida is a particularly meaningful market for insurance-driven glass partnerships given the 2023 AOB reform legislation. With assignment-of-benefits no longer available as a tool for glass shops to drive insurance claims independently, the competitive advantage in Florida's insurance-driven glass market has shifted toward shops that have established preferred-network relationships with carriers and agencies.

For independent glass shops in Florida operating outside preferred networks, the AGN-GreatFlorida-Pearl partnerships represent intensified competition for insurance-directed work. The appropriate competitive response is investing in customer relationship-building and service quality that creates customer preference before a claim event.

The Florida insurance partnership strategy also reflects the broader industry direction: as state-level legislation across the country shifts glass claims toward insurance-network models, national chains with the resources to negotiate formal network agreements will have structural advantages over independent shops that rely on organic customer acquisition.

Key Takeaways

  • Auto Glass Now announced insurance partnerships with GreatFlorida Insurance and Pearl Holding Group in July 2024, covering 22 Florida locations and extending AGN's insurance-referral network significantly.
  • The partnerships follow Florida's 2023 AOB ban, which shifted competitive advantage toward shops with established preferred-carrier relationships rather than AOB-driven claim acquisition.
  • Independent Florida glass shops competing with preferred-network chains should prioritize building customer relationships before claim events to establish preference that overrides network steering.
